In the figure, other than the large rectangle, everything else is square. What is the area of the whole rectangle if the green square has a side length 1 and red square has side length of 2.

area of rectangle

Area of the green box = 1 x 1 =1
Area of the red box = 2 x 2 = 4
The adjacent squares also have the same size as red box (as the three adjacent squares have equal sides).

The length of the sides increases from 124 which could be interpreted fromthe diagram

so the area of the botton right square is 3 x 3 = 9
Area of the botton left square is 4 x 4 = 16
And area of largest square is 4 x 5 = 25

Total area of the rectangle = 1 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 9 + 16 + 25 = 63
